History of Suzuki Motorcycles

Suzuki started out in an entirely different industry. In 1909, it launched as Suzuki Loom Works creating weaving looms. While they found success, Suzuki founder Michio Suzuki wanted to expand their product lines and bolster the company portfolio. In 1937, Suzuki manufactured its first car and found success in the new market. 

After World War II, Japan needed a more affordable form of personal transportation than cars. Suzuki responded in 1952 by creating a bicycle with a motor. Riders could pedal with or without the engine, or choose to rely completely on the engine alone. This idea became popular among consumers and once again Suzuki found success through innovation and expanding on its own horizons. 

Suzuki entered the racing world in 1960, nabbing 15th, 16th, and 18th place in the Isle of Man TT races. Two short years later, they earned first place in a three-way tie with Honda and Kreidler. They kept up the success, later winning first place in seven consecutive events in 1982. Over the years, Suzuki expanded out different types of motorcycles.
